Menachem is eight years old and lives in Williamsburg, New York. He is the youngest of four children and has three older sisters. Menachem enjoys school and can readily impress others with his recitation of mishnayos by heart. He enjoys meeting new people and likes to entertain others by telling jokes.
Throughout the year, Achim B'Yachad, Chai Lifeline’s division serving the Chassidic community, provides support for Menachem, who has a movement disability and uses a wheelchair, as well as his family. Through Achim B’Yachad, Menachem’s family takes part in special events, activities and family trips. One sister participates in a local i-Shine afterschool program for siblings and several Big Brother volunteers visit Menachem during the week and on Shabbos to entertain, play games, help with homework and keep him company.
This past summer, Menachem attended Camp Simcha Special and was accompanied by volunteer counselors from Achim B’Yachad.
“When Chai Lifeline came into our lives, it brought Menachem so much cheer,” says Menachem’s mother. “The dedicated volunteers make sure he never feels alone, and at camp, he meets other kids who can relate to him. They can be free to be who they are without judgment. I can’t imagine what our lives would be like if it weren’t for Chai Lifeline.”
