Micah is 9 and lives near San Diego, California. He enjoys going to the beach, reading fantasy novels, hiking in nature and hanging out with his family. The third-grader’s favorite subject is science and he aspires to one day become a neurobiologist. Micah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age 15-months, and Chai Lifeline West Coast Case Manager Alyssa Wiesel has visited him in the children’s hospital during many of his appointments. The visits were enough to cheer Micah and lift his spirits.
“Seeing people I know who understand what I’m going through helped me feel a lot better,” he said. “It even made the hospital seem less like a hospital.”
Micah spent the past summer at Camp Simcha for the first time. “It was a hundred times better than home!” he said. “I can talk openly about my feelings about cancer, this place is full of people going through similar stuff and no one judges.”
