Leeba is 12 and lives in Monsey, New York. The seventh grader’s favorite subject is science and she enjoys playing basketball on her junior high team. When she grows up, Leeba hopes to pursue a career as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist and help children with cancer.
In 2017, Leeba was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma on the holiday of Rosh Hashana. As she underwent treatment, Chai Lifeline volunteers would visit her regularly, helping lift Leeba’s spirits and bringing out her bubbly, cheerful personality.
"Chai Lifeline was a big source of strength for me when I was in the hospital and going through chemotherapy,” said Leeba.
For the past two summers, Leeba has been a camper at Camp Simcha. She also takes part in Chai Lifeline Shabbatons and events throughout the year and looks forward to those opportunities to reconnect with friends, her counselor, and Chai Lifeline volunteers.
“I have emunah (faith) that Hashem (G-d) is here,” added Leeba. “For anyone going through a difficult situation, I would tell them to be brave, be courageous and have someone that you can trust that you can turn to. My friends and family at Chai Lifeline have been that rock and continue to be that for me."
